The Ecology and Environment Committee has just passed a resolution originally submitted by Venezuela, which looks at the environmental and ecological impact of resource extraction in the Antarctic. The committee effectively banned all structures not related to scientific advancement, and set guidelines for safe resource extraction that should be followed by all member nations. The resolution also allows for a panel of the General Assembly to oversee what building and resource extraction occurs and to monitor it.
