A Look Back at CLEIMUN17
Over President's’ Day Weekend 2017, CLEIMUN celebrated its two year anniversary and its second conference. Since 2015, the conference’s size has doubled. From its humble beginnings as a small conference held in the Saint Edward High School gymnasium, CLEIMUN has morphed into an event hosting 140 delegates at the One Cleveland Center in downtown Cleveland; an incredible transformation. CLEIMUN17 also marked the inception of the international element- St. George’s College in Chile attended for the first time. Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman made an appearance as the keynote speaker, along with Michael Perrins, the Director of MUN at Saint Edward High School. A speech was also made by Dr. Frank O’Linn, former principal of Saint Edward, regarding the theme for the conference: International Partnership for Global Achievement. Delegates of the conference worked vigorously for three days, debating fiercely, but also collaborating. They exemplified the theme perfectly while creating a fantastic group of resolutions. In General Assembly, the Crisis was announced in dramatic fashion; a volcanic eruption on the island of Krakatoa. Immediately the delegates sprung into action; building alliances and co-sponsoring resolutions in order to provide aid and relief. All in all, CLEIMUN17 improved the basics that CLEIMUN15 provided, and set the bar high for CLEIMUN18 and beyond.
