Welcome to CLEIMUN18: A Letter from Our Secretaries-General

Esteemed Delegates, Honorable Chairs, Volunteers, Advisors, and Administrators,

We welcome to you to this, the third installment of CLEIMUN. CLEIMUN18 promises more delegates, more problems - and of course, more resolutions. We have ben in a state of great excitement since the beginning of our preparation in May for the conference. We, the leaders of the Secretariat, have done our best to ensure the development of new ideas over the past year and it is our hope that this will be reflected in the ideas of you, the true creators - the delegates.

In case you have not attended a CLEIMUN style conference before, or if you are in need of a quick reminder, it is important to note that CLEIMUN employs a style that is not replicated anywhere in the world. While both the European style of conference (with pre-written resolutions) and the American style of conference (with lots of inter-delegate collaboration) have their benefits, we believed that Model UN could be more effective when the styles were combined. As such, CLEIMUN asks that delegates prepare resolutions before attending, but also allows time to merge, create and write resolutions with other delegations during the conference. It is this combination that has produced the high quality of resolutions that we have come to expect from the conference.

This year a variety of new pieces have come into play to, hopefully, make this year the most exciting yet. The Secretariat has been carefully chosen and boasts a variety of experience and skillsets to maximize the CLEIMUN experience. The theme, Diplomacy in a Violent World, as well as individual committee topics, have been specifically based in what is most concerning in our world today. We have invited numerous international guests to attend and, with both delegates and administrators participating from around the world, we can proudly claim to be more international than ever. Furthermore, we are proud to be rolling out new software for the recording and distribution of resolutions. We hope that these changes will do much to make the conference run smoothly and efficiently, and enable you to conquer the world’s problems with greater ease.

However, it is you, the delegates, that we are most excited about for this year of CLEIMUN. You are the ones that make the conference tick. Your ideas, your preparation, your speeches, your outfits, your innovation, and your drive are what truly define the success of this conference. We are beyond excited for you. So remember, read the research reports, write your resolutions, and be ready to show up on February 15 to have the time of your life.

Looking Forward to Meeting You,

Claudia Stephens and Anthony Perrins

Joint Secretaries-General, CLEIMUN18
