Political Committee Passes Resolution to Reunify Cyprus


Earlier this afternoon, the Political Committee passed a resolution with the goal of beginning a process to reunify Cyprus. The first part of the resolution centered around calling for all military forces, on both sides, to be removed from the island of Cyprus. Secondly, it was requested that neutral UN Peacekeepers be sent to the island to maintain peace. Lastly, the resolution called for the renaming of the newly unified country, when it occurs, while also implementing a new government structure, dependent on the outcome of the diplomatic talks.
