A Look Back at CLEIMUN15
The 2017 Cleveland International Model United Nations Conference is sure to be a groundbreaking conference in the MUNiverse, but CLEIMUN has an interesting past. The inaugural CLEIMUN Conference, CLEIMUN15, was held from October 23 through October 25 in 2015. Under the direction of Mr. Michael Perrins and the other student leaders, CLEIMUN15 provided delegates with a new perspective of Model UN.
CLEIMUN15 began on at St. Edward High School. The day started with the Opening Ceremonies, which featured keynote speaker Mr. Jerry Torma, the Director of International Human Resources and Global Support for the Nordson Corporation. Afterwards, delegates transitioned into lobbying and submitting resolutions to the Approvals Panel, staffed by the CLEIMUN15 Rapporteurs.
On Saturday, the conference moved to an offsite location, Lakewood Catholic Academy. Unlike Friday, the entirety of Saturday was spent debating resolutions that had been submitted to the Approvals Panel the day prior. Every delegate in each committee was awarded the opportunity to speak, if desired, on the debated resolutions. Once the day concluded, delegates went back to St. Edward to participate in the CLEMUN15 social event, a screening of Back to the Future.
The first part of Sunday was devoted to the Ecumenical Act of Worship, where delegates, advisors, and staff prayed together as a MUN community. Then, at the General Assembly, the CLEIMUN15 Crisis situation occurred, where delegates worked together to handle an ongoing, fictional, situation in Burundi. The conference ended with the Closing Ceremonies and the presentation of awards to exemplary delegates and student leaders.
With the success of CLEIMUN15, there is no doubt that CLEIMUN17 will be an outstanding experience that will motivate participants to produce change in the world!
