CLEIMUN17 Delegates Return from Trip to THIMUN17

Students from St. Edward High School, Saint Joseph Academy, and Laurel High School traveled to The Hague in the Netherlands two weeks ago to attend The Hague International Model United Nations Conference (THIMUN). Many of the students in the group who attended are members of the CLEIMUN17 Secretariat. THIMUN draws 3,500 students from all over the world, with a multitude of countries represented in the General Assembly and in committees. The St. Edward, Saint Joseph, and Laurel students represented the delegation of Dominica in the General Assembly, along with the Human Rights and Disarmament Subcommissions. During the five-day conference, our delegates worked with students from around the world to work on resolutions on topics ranging from arms smuggling to the access of medicine. Each committee eventually passed resolutions, which will go on to be seen by some actual United Nations diplomats! Two of our delegates were able to be main submitters of resolutions, and quite of few of them were able to successfully pass the resolutions they supported and assisted in writing.
Outside of the conference, the group had the chance to eat some typical Dutch foods, such as the pancakes at Pannekoekenhuisje, explore a bit of the downtown Den Haag, and dip their feet into the (freezing cold!) North Sea. They also took a train to Amsterdam, toured the Anne Frank House, observed some beautiful artwork at the Rijksmuseum, and got some shopping and dining in. When asked about what the group took away most from the conference, they responded the friends that they had made. The group spent extended time with the delegation from Haileybury in Hertfordshire, England, and were able to make connections with delegates in their own individual committees from almost every continent, in addition to perfecting their MUNing skills with some of the most accomplished delegates in the world.
